At times like these I wish the media just wouldn't report it to not give the terrorists what they want. It also gives everyone a false sense of imminent danger. And fear always leads to bad decisions.

The media (the serious media, not those alternative-facts idiots) is playing an important role in informing people, both those in the area and their relatives. I think people would freak out much more if media didn't report about the events, and it would also lead to an increase in speculations and rumours.

In this case the police seems to have done a good job in getting control of the situation, and that's something you want those responsible as well as their supporters to see.

As nice as it is to see the good work people do, the effect of those pictures pales into comparison with the pictures of the carnage and sorrow. Terrorists world wide get off on seeing people being terrified and weeping for their loved ones. This high then motivates them even more. The whole point of terrorism is to spread fear and the media is doing a great job of spreading it for the terrorists free of charge.

Showing it to the whole world just to garner worthless sympathy while providing every terrorist a visible goal and showing them how easily achiavable it is is doing everyone a disservice. Of course I know it's impossible to keep such a thing under wraps but wuldn't it be nice if we could at least stop giving the terrorists the satisfaction that they crave?

So sad. It's just a matter of time before this happens to *insert country* in the western world.

I agree with Vivster in a way that giving them publicity only furthers their cause.
On the other hand people need to know in case they or someone they know live in the area.

This could easily be done locally without being blown up world wide.
