I feel like Scalebound could still be alive (but I'm likely wrong). I mean MS owns it and a lot was done. Just put it in the hands of a more competent developer... like Rare. The remake of Phantom Dust should have never existed. Few played the original, it was a critical success, rereleasing that should have been the original goal. The remake could have sucked, it could have been a Tony Hawk HD situation. |
I'm hesitant to get into this, really, but hear we go: You don't outright say that Platinum is incompetent, but the implication is there. Why is this? Now, I'm not outright saying that incompetence on the part of Microsoft lead to the cancelation of Scalebound, but when I see the dev spitting outright vitriol at the publisher on social media months before the cancellation, and read that Microsoft was forcing a tacked-on multiplayer component into the game that had nothing to do with the original vision....You know what? That's exactly what I'm saying. Scalebound would have benefitted from being in the hands of a more competent publisher. And why Rare? Their recent history hasn't been that great. They're long removed from the status of "elite developer" that they once held. I'll put Platinum's track record since their inception up against Rare's, and I think Platinum would come out ahead in most peoples eyes.
