Here's my ideal vision of what a Nintendo Switch could be. Not necessarily specific games, just my ideal situation. And I'm gonna leave out stuff like "new 3D mario" and whatnot because we already know we're getting that.
First party:
- New Prime-style Metroid
- New 2D Metroid (bring back the glory of the Cube/GBA days and release them both on the same day with some
kind of cross-compatibility)
- Dig deep into the back catalog and revive an old unexpected series. Something like a new Star Tropics would be wonderful
- New Star Fox
- New top-down Zelda game
- Do something wacky like give us a new side scrolling Zelda in the vein of Zelda 2. Take some chances, Nintendo!
- A brand new Mother game!
- Mario RPG 2!
- Get Monolith and Squeenix together and make a new Xenogears!
- If you give us a new side scrolling Mario, please, for the love of Pete, don't make it yet another clone of New Super Mario Bros.
Third Party:
- Nintendo needs to make it attractive to developers, but they're kind of in their normal spot where 3rd party games won't sell as well due to inferior hardware, etc. But they can still try.
- Konami needs to get their heads out of their asses and make new 2D Castlevanias and Contras. Do what they did on the GBA and DS. Konami could reverse a large chunk of their bad will in this manner.
- Further to the two points above, third parties need to create unique games for the system. Ports aren't going to attract a PS4 owner. But If Konami brings the Vania and Contra, and Capcom develops a new Mega Man, and Squeenix develops a new FF or Bravely game, and hell...if Tecmo were to make a new 2D Ninja Gaiden... these could be ways to entice new customers while not being too much of a risk due to the lower graphical requirements involved. And nintendo needs to foster these relationships.
Everything Else:
- I want to be flooded with indie games. Good quality indie games. In the vein of the great games of yesteryear.
- I want to be flooded with JRPGs. Good quality JRPGs. In the vein of gens 4 to 6.
I know the majority of what I wrote is basically a list of unicorns. But that's what I would fucking love to see. And aside from those "out there" games like Xenogears, I wouldn't say that making the switch an Indie/RPG machine and fostering relationships with 3rd parties for unique games is too out of the realms of possibility. The DS is an example of how this can happen.
