The main issue that I have with PCs is compatibility. If I want to play a PS1, I just pop it in the PS1 and turn it on. However, I have had many problems trying to run older games on my PC (as I mainly wanted to play DOS and early Windows games). |
The issue with the PS1 is that they had significant hardware defects in the early console revisions. (Case in point: Disc Drive wear, which required the console to be tilted just to keep reading the disc.)
And now that console is a few decades old, their failure rates are getting higher as optical disc lasers and capacitors don't last forever... Sometimes having newer more modern hardware is not a bad thing.
I could have the entire PS1 games library on my PC and switching between all of them is just a few clicks away... How can you get anymore convenient than that? Plus the games look better to boot.
As for compatability on PC. What you needed was DosBox and/or Virtualised Windows 98. Or you could just buy the games from GoG.com which have been reworked to work on modern systems and it's just a case of a download and install.
But even with the newer consoles... There are significant amounts of large patches, allot of games launch with a bugs or server issues, PC has gotten more convenient and consoles have gone in the opposite direction.
But this is side-stepping the entire conversation.. I don't see how ANY of this is relevant to multiplayer gaming?

The point I was making is that... People make the claim that you can't play with "friends" on PC. That it is a "Loner" platform.
Do those people look like "loners"?
