Same can be done on PC via Steam.

The days of every game having split-screen local multiplayer is over for consoles, you need multiple consoles to do it these days, so it's really the same as the PC.

The main issue that I have with PCs is compatibility. If I want to play a PS1, I just pop it in the PS1 and turn it on. However, I have had many problems trying to run older games on my PC (as I mainly wanted to play DOS and early Windows games).

It can get tricky when you get into Windows 9x and especially DOS territory. But with enough patience and DOSBoxes, you should be able to set it up.
