Every time a thread like this comes up, you can be sure that someone will use this hilarious logic. "Oh, it's not fair that the PC has near-perfect backwards compatibility with virtually every PC game released in the last 20 years, so I'm going to compare a small section of the PC library to the entirity of my favourite console's library! That will be fair!" No. One of the strengths of the PC as a platform is that it can play a much wider selection of games. You don't get to arbitrarily exclude one of a platform's biggest advantages just because your favourite platform can't hope to compete in that respect. The PC has a wider library that goes back much further than any console, and it's something that any PC gamer can take advantage of. This adds value to the PC and it's totally fair to bring up this fact in any comparison between the various gaming platforms. |
This is a clear example of not seeing the forest for the trees.
"Nintendo has sold 700 million hardware units! That's more than Microsoft and Sony combined! Clearly Nintendo is the better manufacturer." - If Nintendo fans used the same logic as the PC-Only crowd.
What's wrong with that statement? Nintendo has steadily lost market share with each new generation. Nintendo was in bussiness much longer than the other console makers. Nintendo also does handhelds on top of consoles.
"PC has MORE games than all the other consoles COMBINED!"
Except that 90% of the games on PC can be played on your grandmother's PC. A massive chunk of those games can be bought at a used game shop for PS3/PS2/360. Console exclusives far surpass PC exclusives on a generation by generation basis. In order to build a PC that was guarunteed to play AAA games until 2020 you'd have to spend a lot more than the net $240 cost of a PS4. Meanwhile the PS4 will play new AAA games till then and beyond.
