Could just as well say, what did tax evasion ever do to you? People that evade taxes save a ton of money, and they can enjoy it on a lot of stuff they couldn't otherwise afford. Yet they do make taxes worse for people overall.

Software I've worked on did get pirated. Result not only loss of income, also anti piracy measures that were a pita during development and slowed down the software somewhat due to working with encrypted data. Nvm inconveniencing legitimate customers.

It's simple if everyone pirated software / evaded taxes the industry / society would collapse. Why should legitimate buyers subsidize pirates?

A lot of people either cant afford games or would rather spend it on other stuff. There are enough people that are willing to buy games to subside those people, as long as game companies break even or make a slight profit it's not a big deal. Yeah in theory if everyone did it it'd be a problem, but that wont ever happen. These games are still making profits.

Yet many game studios have closed in recent years. Not all games are still making profits. It's just a poor excuse and pirates are nothing but mooches. They're no better than people abusing the welfare system. But luckily they're enough people willing to pay taxes to cover for them, so not a big deal, right?
