What's the problem? Religious Education/Studies is a subject in the UK school system. It teaches you about religions, what they believe and understand. This is how understanding in general is taught.
Anyone who says that religion shouldn't be taught in school doesn't understand that there is a difference between teaching a child/kid what other faiths believe and church... which is what they think is going on.
