The OK-ness of people profiting from historical misery inflicted on a whole population of people all depends on context. I don't think it's right for someone to profit from someone else's suffering without permission, regardless of skin color.

That's a good principle. But who's permission do you get when the people are dead, or the suffering was is by a whole populace, or the story is fiction but it's about suffering that happened for real?
