2017 is another of these insane years though.

Now is not the time to be "missin" the good ol days... 2017 is amazeballs in terms of games.

Can't say I share your Enthusiasm. The most excited I have been about a game this year was StarCraft: Remastered.

No, trust me on this... the 8 and 16-bit era was the best time to be a gamer. The amount of innovation and creativity is something we haven't seen since. It was mind blowing.

The best time was during the 3D revolution on PC, the 3dfx voodoo just burst onto the scene which forever cemented the PC as the platform with the best graphics, highest resolutions and fastest framerates.
Games were testing new waters, combining genre's and experimenting with the shift into 3D space.

That would peg it at around 1994 - 1999.

Descent, Diablo, Freespace, Carmageddon, Battlezone, Hexen, Quake, Unreal, Mechwarrior, Need for Speed, X-Com, Dune, Total Annihilation, StarCraft, Dark Reign, WarCraft, Doom, Sim City, System Shock, Command and Conquer, Master of Orion, Civilization, Duke Nukem, Dungeon Keeper, Fallout, Baldurs Gate, Half Life, Grim Fandango, Thief, Age of Empires..
Then the next few years after that was just as equally as epic with the likes Icewind Dale, Homeworld, Planescape Torment, Deus Ex, Giants: Citizens Kabuto, Sacrifice, Black and White, Arcanum, Neverwinter Nights, Morrowind, Call of Duty, Freelancer, Max Payne, Unreal Tournament, Knights of the Old Republic and more.
