Does Witcher 3 ever get good?

I'll have to give it a try someday, but the combat was always been what held me to not playing like.
Like someone said here, just like Skyrim.

 

The combat is better than Skyrims, far more fun, but the hit detection of some enemies can be infuriating, the first 'boss' being a prime example. You can't button mash unless on easy difficulties. The mix of buff magic + bombs + agile swordplay is when it hits peak coolness.
