You already played the best part although it has a slight reprieve when you visit Kaer Morhen, much much later. The Skellig isles are nice to explore yet once you've seen all the islands it's back to being a chore. It wasn't a bad game, just left me unfulfilled and bored long before the end. So no, it actually gets worse.
