The same reason the media have been manipulating what people see for decades they need headlines for business regardless of how factual they are or not.

To be fair, it's only certain niche media that spreads right wing FUD. The mainstream media in Germany is more on the immigrant loving side.

So it's not really "the media" that is spreading misinformation but just a handful of right wing nuts talking to their echo chambers.
