I've heard rumours it's pretty faithful to the original anime, which I recently rewatch to remind myself. A few changes for western audiences but close. However the anime has certain scenes that the US movie going audiences wouldn't get, like when it just plays music over scene setting up plot.
Anyway, if it succeeds, then it might make Hollywood consider making more live action versions of well known animes, if done well of course, not talking Dragon Ball here. Just give them time and they'll ruin Akira, is all I'm saying. :P
