Remakes, rehashes, reboots, sequels, prequels, resequels, cinematic universes and now they're just making movies out of popular animes. After GitS we're now getting Death Note USA. Whats next, Westernized bollywood flicks?

It feels like creatively this is one of the worst decades.

TV shows are safer bets now, so if you want to see more daring projects that's the way to go.

I've also had enough Hollywood. The last two times I went to the theatre were for The Handmaiden (South Corean, big budget) and Your Name (Japanese, animated masterpiece).

Hollywood has never had ideas. It's a precious rare thing to see a great film that wasn't based on some existing work. The issue with recent movies is that they're adapting the wrong ideas. They're not willing to take risks, so they go about adapting and "rebooting" already successful films/tvshows. *coughwherethehellistheWheelofTimemoviecough*

That said, I take no issue with the live action Ghost in the Shell, though Death Note seems kind of pointless unless they mix things up a bit.

The problem is, there have been better alternatives to Ghost in the Shell since (most notably Ergo Proxy), and Death Note was only good for 12-15 years old newcomers to anime in their chuuni phase.

Overall only animes that reached cult status in their time get adapted, but once they are outdated in bth their themes and story structure (The rhythm in japanese animation got so much better after 2009 that older shows always feel outdated now, with a few exceptions). They could be modernized in their adaptations but that would anger the target audience.

I'll still go to the theatre for Ghost in the Shell just because SJWs think a caucasian actor shouldn't play a synthetic body, lol.

Yes the current seasonal anime produce masterpieces that are sometimes easily forgotten. But Gintama is as awesome as it has always been. Logan was awesome as well. People for some reason like Attack on titan and naruto a lot when things like Drifters Tokyo Ghoul ACCA Onihei are much better. But in terms of anime, Nothing rivals Gintama
