Hollywood has never had ideas. It's a precious rare thing to see a great film that wasn't based on some existing work. The issue with recent movies is that they're adapting the wrong ideas. They're not willing to take risks, so they go about adapting and "rebooting" already successful films/tvshows. *coughwherethehellistheWheelofTimemoviecough*

That said, I take no issue with the live action Ghost in the Shell, though Death Note seems kind of pointless unless they mix things up a bit.
