I've seen Japan doing it with some of their IP's as well.
If you take a gander at general movie history, we've been remaking and copying ideas for decades.
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
