There are things to be tolerant of, like what food or video game someone prefers. Others, like racism, sexism and xenophobia are harmful and should not be tolerated at all. Also, you could talk about the contrary: because you can't get me to change my mind, does that mean that you're wrong too?

Very rarely does one change his/her mind so quickly in a debate due to the human nature of stubborness. One of the main functions of a public debate is to have other people see the exchange of ideas and opinions, and make their own judgement after that.
