I disagree.... with how the switch is held (and i recently got a chance to use one extensively) the joycons are big enough for your thumbs and the part of your palms just under your thumbs to rest on them. Not even remotely interferring with the screen.
You can see it in the screenshot i provided below. I can understand why its the size it is, and there isn't anything wrong with that size, it just culd have been bigger. And make no mistake, a Switch xl with a "1080p" screen and a biiger screen will be released soon but still have the same form factor and general dimensions of the current switch.
