Oddly, the Switch being a hybrid has left open the door for Sony to do well by putting a true handheld on the market. Unfortunately, they probably weren't ready for that eventuality and have nothing planned. Opportunities like this have a small window while releasing hardware takes years.
Maybe this is why Nintendo was so zealous about guarding details on the Switch?
Right now, one of the best things the Switch has going for it is a lack of competition in the dedicated handheld space. I think a cheaper, more portable handheld could have stolen away some customers.
