I am looking forward to the threads on the pronunciation of such words as "aluminium" and the letters "w" and "v" (one for the Germans)

short story
ZED

Long story
When you are in primary the teachers learn you the alphabet in lower case letter.
so the leter Z is pronounced zer
but in caps it is pronounced ZED

Whoa, wait. I've never heard of this either. There are places that teachers learn you to say the lower and upper case letters differently?

I would also like to know what is going on there.

Are you saying that you would say "zebra" in a different way to "Zebra"

All I know is that the letter is called "zed".... but the way you pronounce it will depend on the other letters around it making up the words
(with Z you usually pronounce it as "zzz" oddly enough... so zebra is pronounced zzz-eh-be-ra (although I believe Americans pronounce it zzz-ee-be-ra))

Actually a good way to describe the "z" sound without using the letter "z" would be "ts".... although with "zzz" there is more vibration than with "ts"
