I made my own character and her facial animations are truly, truly bizarre to witness in action. I think in the older ME games facial animations were actually created by a specialty studio outside of Bioware. Looks like they tried to do it themselves and the results are euphemistically amusing
I do like what ive played of it though, but it is defintiely lacking the overall polish that past ME games were known for
