Well. I'm French and I do not see French gaming tastes any different than let's say Germany or USA or Canada (where I live now).
Of course Nintendo has always been big for me while growing up, same goes with mangas (esp. comics on TV, I watched those like crazy).

There's definitely some difference. Sure a lot of the biggest games try to be as mainstream as possible so they're bound to attract people regardless of country/culture. But there are still some differences. One of the easiest ones to spot is sports games, compare the sales of say Madden/NHL/FIFA in those countries and you'll likely see a different very strong preference depending on country.

While as for consoles Nintendo definitely does proportionally better in France than many other regions. While Xbox is more popular in UK/US than elsewhere. And PC is more popular in Germany, Scandinavia and much of Asia. Speaking of Asia, MMOs there are a another one that shows how gaming tastes can vary depending on country/region.

Actually after reading you first post (we posted at the same time); I agree with what you are saying. Esp. with the animes and all that.
With that new perspective, I guess yes it is a bit different.
