State of decay was made around the end of 360 life cycle / begining of xbox one lifetime and it sold over five million (more than any ps4 exclusive outside of Uncharted 4). Now it is getting a AAA release this year and going forward. Also, you don't know what game from Sony will get a sequel or not. Sony doesn't have the perfect track record of keeping up with their franchises. Just look at where Socom and GT is at. Also, even though Forza Horizon didn't come out this generation, it has become big thanks to Forza Horizon 3. In fact, it was the best selling racing game in North America. That is huge and there is a good chance going forward Microsoft will use Minecraft to leverage xbox and Windows store. Valve hasn't put out a game since counter strike source. If Microsoft can get the steam treatment with third party support along with their billion dollar franchises that would help a lot and put pressure on Steam.
Minecraft, Halo, Gears and now Forza are billion dollar franchises. If I were to put my money on it, State of Decay has a good shot at becoming another billion dollar franchise judging how good the first one sold.

The last of us sold quite well as well across two platforms. Over half to be exact (12 million). Sony doesnt have a perfect track record with exclusives, but they are leagues beyond Microsoft and Nintendo is just on its own planet. At this rate Nintendo and Sony could survive solely as first party publishers though. They have enough high profile franchises to take on even EA or Activision.

The last of us is a good game, but it isn't releasing until next year which means it has been five years since the first. Uncharted and TLOU will come out twice a generation. This gen is more than half way over for Sony (assuming 2020 is the release of PS5) and they have only one console exclusive that sold over 3 million which was uncharted 4. Nintendo couldn't survive with bigger franchises like SSB, Mario Kart, Zelda, ect regading the Wii U alone. Sony, couldn't pull the same stunt at all. Microsoft and Sony depends on third party titles a lot because that is what most people want if you look at what games are selling the most.
