There was a Turbo mode in the International version? I thought that was new for Zodiac Age.
And how was International worse than the original exactly?

The main problem of International version is the job system; you're required to pick a job for your characters. This job cannot be changed, so once you've chosen a profession for one of the characters, it's stuck with that one for the rest of the game.

What comes from this is the fact that you won't be able to choose all the professions in the game (multiple playthroughs are required, and even then you'll have to leave behind several professions each time as you can only pick up to six), so making a mistake when chosing or something like that can totally destroy your playthrough for the reminder of the game.

This creates another problem: License Boards. Unlike the original game, each job has its own license board, only available for the people who has taken that license board in particular. Here's one big problem, though: you can't unlock everything from any license board, as it requires an unspecified path to choose from when grabbing certain Quickenings and Summons (which forfeit other paths or random tiles in your way). Now this might not seem that much of a loss...but then there are professions that have their best weapons or such things locked behind specific tiles that can be lost forever (Ranger can lose access to his best weapon if someone else from a different job picks a specific Summon, for example). It's obnoxious and pretty weird.

I don't mean this as discouraging. The game is very fun, still. But it really makes you wish for job swaps or something like that. I got Penello in my party for the whole game because she was the only one who could consistently cast White Magick (There's two other jobs that somehow get access to some white magick, but it's pretty weak either way). Instead of the versatile license board of the original, this one has too many fixed goals and whatnots that screw up the experience a bit, at least in my eyes.
