| zero129 said: I honestly dont believe why people believe consoles wouldnt sell if they all shared their exclusives, as it seems to be the only industry in the entertainment world that does this. I know if i enjoy a game its not the platform im thinking about when im playing it and i would want as many others to enjoy this game as i did. To me exclusives are anti consumer and i really dont understand why people cant see it for what it is. I mean could you imagine the uproar if you had to buy a Sony Bluray player to watch the new Sony movies released? then a Samsung one to watch lets say Marvels new movies etc?. People would be going crazy about it so i dont see why many of them same people are ok with console exclusives. But anyways now im getting off topic with that last part of my post and my ramplings so ill just let the thread get back on track |
This is mind boggling to me.... not that I gree with you, but that I don't understand how someone thats eems so knowledgeable about the industry can at the same time seem so clueless on this particualr topic.
But here is my take on it.....
- borrowing from what you said, console development takes time. To add to that..... and MONEY. Lots of it. Not just for the R&D, but for the marketing, tools, testing....etc. Its not just like starpping together abluray drive and a video decoder and making a bluray player that any company on the planet can do. Hell, you can even source out parts to make your own bluray player that yu would sell under you own brand and get that all going under 3 months. Why you would want to do that do is another matter.
- Now if you can understand the concept of (1) above, then you should know that at the time a console comes to market, the company that made it is already a lot of money in the hle before the first console is even sold. Even if they made a small profit on each unit sold, it takes a while for them to be profitable.
that is where exclusives come in, they help and accelerate the process by which one platform growns its install base. higher install base means moremoney from royalties on all software sold on the platform. Which is the business model by which console gaming exists. - So I find it shocking that you can't see how having everything on everything (while great for the consumer) be a problem for the industry as a whole. Why would i need to buy an XB1 if I can get everything it has on the PC/PS4. Or why would i need to buy a console at all if I can get everything on a PC? Then again, everything you just said sounds like "everythingshould be on PC because i game on PC". What sense does that make to sony or nintendo?
I am sorry, but I have zero trust for Microsoft...... and i dread the day when everything gaming related exists on their platform. And as far as I am concerned... the PC (windows) is an MS platform.
