The criteria to not be a handheld is that the device offers proper home console functionality when connected to a TV. Obvious example: Neither the PSP or PSV offer splitscreen multiplayer for their games; Switch does. For people who gamed on Nintendo home consoles in the past, none of the usual functionality is being lost. Switch is legitimately a hybrid. |
I personally still consider it a handheld though. And I could state my reasns but i have learnt that this is always a very touchy subject so I won't.
Home console, hybrid, handheld...... it doesn't relly matter. i am more interested in seeing how it will be performing by this time next year. nintendo's hardware succeeding or failing doesn't make a difference to me being that the majority of games I play aren't even on the platform. At the end of the day I thik thats really all that matters.
