I'd guess it's because most on here haven't played an old PC game like System Shock, let alone care for it. Same goes for Quake as well.
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
