This generation allot less details are baked, more details are dynamic/real time, which is generally of a higher quality caliber.

Obviously as every gen console games dramatically improve and will keep doing so until we hit the diminishing returns barrier.  Sony ps3 games still look fantastic even by today's standards.  

 

The console was a beast. 

I'm comparing it to the PC of course. Battlefield 3 was placing the PC almost generationally ahead of the Playstation 3.
Crysis was holding it's own against almost all the Playstation 3 titles even a decade after it's release.

Then we had the likes of Metro... Which pushed out glorious Tessellation.

Oh and the PC could still play games higher than the Playstation 3's general default 720P or lower resolution, the PC has had 4k displays since about 2003... You could do eyefinity as well.
