The thing is if the 4C/8T Kaby LAke is already the better game's performer now, it only stands to reason the 6C/12T consumer i7 on the way ( with further IPC improvements) sounds like a plausible upgrade for those gamers who would like some more cores/threads without sacrificing the best FPS.

Most gamers with i5's as far back as the 2500K still have time to consider what is on the table in the next year.

I don't get the 'games aren't made with 8 cores in mind today, that is soon going to change' , when XBO/PS4 and AMD FX were on the market in the 2011-2013 window....

Fast Forward 4-5 years and i5/i7 Quad's still rule the top end even on  threaded games, and i3 dual core's still rule the budget segment. Intel's Core i products have legs and they squeeze the most out of their CPU's.
