As a general rule, I've always believed that a real time action based battle system has a more mainsteam appeal than turned based.  And with the FFVII Remake coming our way soon, Tetsuya Nomuta just confirmed an action based battle system.

"Square Enix’s Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that the combat system in the hotly anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PS4 will indeed be action-based.

Speaking in an interview with the latest Famitsu magazine (via NeoGAF), Nomura-san cleared up previous reports that erroneously suggested the title would support a command-based combat system that echoes the original 1997 version of the seminal JRPG. This ties in with what the team had said previously in regards to Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s combat, although non-action fans shouldn’t be concerned, apparently."

Now, I have nothing against action based games, but what helped set FFVII apart for its time was that it was a turned based rpg among more mainstream genres such as platforming (Crash), action adventure (Tomb Raider), fighting (Tekken), and racing (Ridge Racer).  There's no reason why SE cannot employ an updated or revamped turned based battle system for the remake to help cater to its fans.

I would say this. We want games to have better and better graphics. And do you really want beautifully designed characters, almost like real, to stay in one place and wait for your command? Rly?
