Interest, application, effort. If you like something so do many other people. If you can't find a way to become successful through your interests, your interests are probably illegal.
Preparation is heavily over-rated. Know the difference between a goal and a system. The system will carry you to your goal and if it doesn't, then the system is broken. Fix it.
It's not about what happens to you in life, it's about how you react to the things that happen to you and how you grow as a person. You are a product of your environment and should be able to recognise success when you see it. Apply the successful points and remember the failures and hopefully when success hits, you don't plateau.
