MS knows Scorpio is not the only answer to its problems but it certainly is the vessel it needs to steer Xbox forward.

At the end of the day the only way to improve it is it needs to sell hardware to the following people:

+Xbox360/XBO owner upgrades
+Gamers it lost to Sony due to 'less powerful perception'
+ Cross platform buyers
+ Those looking for cutting edge 4K console for their 4K TV's
+ Consumers that buy the latest and greatest

While the argument was that Sony's mid-gen refresh is suspect at best , Xbox stands to gain more from its current position becoming a performance leader with Scorpio. With the new buzz, other investments and partnerships naturally follow.

I anticipate the reason MS has been mum on new projects is because it is saving all new announcements as a method to showcase that it is reinvesting heavily into the Xbox brand with the introduction of Scorpio.

While they've focused a lot on the 'One Platform' message, they still will launch this with the resources they would put towards a new console launch.
