30 year old retro-game console outselling a brand new console despite only a small difference in price. That and all of Nintendo's games that constantly outsell Sony's games.

Sony is always welcome to make a similar plug and play console with the PS1 or PS2, but I doubt it would sell as well as the NES (especially at the same price point).

I think you have two very different types of people between PlayStation and Nintendo users, and that is why there would be a disparity. I think there is just as much desire for classic PS1 games as there is for classic NES games, but there is a lot of factors you have to take into account.

1. Right off the bat think PlayStation owners are more apt to want one device that does everything, as opposed to having an additional gimick to have to hook up. Therefore they would rather have all of those PS1 titles available on the PS4 they already own.

2. PS1 games have been playable on every PlayStation device except PS4 and PS4 Pro. Thus poeple have had no shortage of ways to play these games if they desired.

3. PlayStation has a massive amount of new 1st, 2nd, and 3rd party titles releasing constantly, making it much harder to find time to go back and play some classics.

Nintendo also has a virtual console on their consoles you know. You can play NES games on the Wii, 3DS, Wii U and in the future also the Nintendo Switch.

Your third point doesn't make much sense either as the tie ratio of the PS4 isn't much higher than the Wii U. You also don't really know what other consoles NES Mini owners own. They might as well also have a PS4 or X1.
