Just out of curiosity. ..what made you come to that conclusion?  That the Nintendo  Brand is much stronger? Are you basing this just on the NES?

30 year old retro-game console outselling a brand new console despite only a small difference in price. That and all of Nintendo's games that constantly outsell Sony's games. 

Sony is always welcome to make a similar plug and play console with the PS1 or PS2, but I doubt it would sell as well as the NES (especially at the same price point).
