I'm illustrating the point that a $300 CPU can not be put into a system that's $400. Because you need more than just a CPU.

Incase you aren't aware, economies of scale isn't a magic solution to getting everything below cost.

No you're not illustrating any point, you're making pointless replies to me. What the hall are you even arguing about? No one said Scorpio will have 8 core cpu, why did you even reply to me?

This thread is about 8-core Ryzen processors. You replied in response to Dave who... (And I quote)

So if the Scorpio has this....there's no way it'll be 400 dollars?

These are consumer prices. Retailers get them cheaper and when a giant like Microsoft orders them in bulk, say in orders of a few million, the price probably goes down to <$150

And this is a thread, people do tend to reply to other people.

And you're wrong. Just like Sony got a ~$300 GPU in a $400 system, so can MS do it with a CPU.

Remember, by having a $300 CPU in a system, that leaves you with $100 for the GPU, Ram, Hard Drive, Optical Drive, Networking, Controllers, Case, Power Supply, Packaging, Motherboard, Chipset and other components in a $400 box.

It's never going to happen. Ever. Period.

I'm just saying it's technically possible to fit a $300 component into a box of $400. RX480 launched at higher than 300 euros here and is still around that price. My believe is that it's far more likely to get Ryzen 5.

The part you don't seem to understand is that by having a $300 GPU, you cannot have a $300 CPU and still hit the $400 price point.

Ryzen 5 is also not going to happen.
Ryzen 5 is the 6-core chips. Microsoft have already advertised the fact that Scorpio will h ave 8-cores.
