You look at all the other exclusives that have been released or will release on Xbox, almost all of them are just second parties being partnered with to work on Microsoft's new IP. Microsoft owns the IP but not the studio developing it. 

 

Let's take a look at what new Microsot IPs/exclusives there have been released/will release in the future. 

ReCore  = New IP from Microsoft but not developed by a first party studio.

Sunset Overdrive = New exclusive from Microsoft but not developed by first party studio. (insomniac owns the rights though I think). 

Ori and the Blind Forest = New exclusive for Xbox but developed by second party.

Project Spark = New exclusive developed by second party.

Killer Instinct = Though not an entirely new IP, they brought it back from the dead and is basically a new game with an IP they own. Developed by second party. 

Quantum Break = New IP but developed by a second party. 

Screamride = New exclusive developed by a second party for the Xbox. (360 and Xbox One).

State of Decay 1/2 = Though originally the first was a 360 game but was ported to Xbone and is getting a sequel on Xbone. (If the Last of Us 2 counts then this one can too). Once again developed by a second party for Microsoft. 

and that's just me only mentioning what can be considered "new" games from them and not already established franchises. (I know Killer Instinct was established, but that was basically dead before Microsoft brought it back). I didn't even mention games like Dead Rising 3/4, Halo Wars 2, etc. 

 

The only new IP from Microsoft that is actually being created by a first party studio they own is Sea of Thieves by Rare. There's nothing wrong with Microsoft partnering with second party studios to work on new IPs/exclusives for them, but we've seen that it doesn't work out too well each time, for example Scalebound.

I don't really agree that we wouldn't be seeing so many new games from Sony if they weren't doing so well. I mean, look at last gen. They released a lot of really big new IP when they were really having trouble and it's been credited with helping turn last gen around for them. I mean, Infamous, LBP, Uncharted, TLOU, Journey...Sony was no joke last gen.

Microsoft has released a decent number of new games/ip this gen,  I actually think you missed Titanfall. The sequel was multiplatform but it started on Xbox this gen. But I mean...the article was about a comparison to Playstation and quite frankly, the lists aren't really even close.

Knack, The Order, Resogun, Alienation, Days Gone, Detroid, Until Dawn, Bloodborne, Nioh, Horizon, Driveclub, Hellblade...that's a lot of games and there are more. Not even considering that a lot of those are major games.

So hey, MS has done fine...but in comparison? The article has a point.

I'm not saying the article doesn't have a point lol I agree that Xbox isn't coming close to Playstation in terms of exclusives currently, though it is based on someone's preferences, the PS4 might be getting more exclusives but that doesn't mean someone can't personally just prefer the ones on the Xbox One. I'm just saying that so many people seem to just focus on a game that get cancalled on the Xbox One such as Scalebound instead of what has actually been released, which is quite a few, and while in comparison to Sony not as much, but still a decent amount. 

When a game like Scalebound gets cancalled the point that always gets made is "See Xbox only cares about Halo, Gears, and Forza they would rather make those than this", when i'm just saying that's simply not true when we actually look at the new IPs/exclusives they have released. I was gonna include Titanfall but I wasn't sure if that one counted or not for some reason. 

Also I already agree, when I made my post about maybe Sony wouldn't take as many risks I also thought back to the PS3 days and thought yeah Sony did still develop a lot of new IPs and exclusives despite being in last place for a while. It's not that I changed my mind, I already felt that way, I just worded that poorly so perhaps I should edit that part to better reflect what I meant. 

Microsoft really just needs to establish more first party studios imo and this could be solved so much more easily. I would imagine that's probably easier said than done but I dunno how this stuff works lol.
