I got my first cell phone in high school That thing could go a week between charges. Today, my iPhone lasts about a day.
I never think about how great the battery was on my old phone though. I think of all the amazing things my iPhone can do.
The battery experience is functionally the same for me because I can charge my phone every night while I sleep. The old flip phone being able to sit by my bed all night, not plugged in, while losing no battery was impressive, but it's not something I saw any benefit from.
The original GameBoy could do two weeks worth of 2 hour days on 4 double As. Fantastic.
Docking the Switch every night gets you the same experience though so who cares?
