Not these days. When you have two identical consoles with a library that offers 90% of the same games. Than the more attractive the powerful console looks. Why do you think the PS4 sold so well especially at launch with very little exclusives separating the two. Similar prices yet one console offered slightly better preformance.

> implying PlayStation's track record for delivering a wide variety of great games had nothing to do with it

> implying the Xbox brand was ever as strong as PlayStation, when in reality the lead only ever existed because of the year market headstart

Oh boy are you misguided.

To be fair, xbox only needs US and UK market to be successful. The 360 and ps3 were nearly tied (ps3 slightly ahead), but the 360 had a way higher software attach ratio (almost 2:1) because US and UK buys the most software out of all the regions. So if Microsoft dominates US and UK like they did with the 360 era, they will be fine. It's amazing how xbox one is only a few million behind ps4 in United States despite the botch launch. If they don't mess up they can easily dominate the region which will be huge.
