There was a survey going around that analyze why people bought a ps4 and the biggest reason was resolution. Resolution and framerate has become a big thing recently in the last 3-4 years. If VGChartz is correct regarding the best selling games, they are usually multiplatform games so people might just want the best versions of them. By the logic of that survey then people in America must really not care about resolution while people in Europe/Japan really care about resolution. 

PS4 has a strong base in North America as well. A lot of people probably picked an xbox ove playstation in united states because they are familiar with it from last gen and of course Halo, Gears, Forza , controller and xbox live.
