I only get digital copies when they are heavily discounted (got Lego Marvel for 7 dollars). I refuse to pay the same for a copy that's naturally inferior since I can't do none of the above.
If by some reason Valve goes out of business, you will lose all your games. Steam uses regular DRM checks even in offline mode. DRM is always garbage and brings zero benefits to consumers. It's the companies pushing a problem that's theirs (piracy) over the consumer. They screw the paying consumers because of pirates. If the aforementioned scenario happens, you, the guy who bought the game, will lose your products. As for the pirates? Well, their copies will still work, so they actually got a superior product with zero cost. |
Well firstly, Valve says they will send out patches and what not to make sure the games don't rely on steam if something like that were to happen. Secondly, the drm on steam is optional and it is up to the developers on whether or not they want to use the DRM. There are many games on steam but granted are the minority which do not use steam drm but are still sold through steam. I do agree that DRM is nonsense tho.
