I have no idea why this would be confusing for you. As many different people have different priorities with their money, it's easily a valid question.
On topic, I very rarely buy anything at launch. I will usually only pre-order titles that I have complete faith in playing, like a Fallout or a Borderlands. LA Noire is the game that taught me not to waste money on hype alone. I also don't pay $60 for short games.
