I don't read a lot of regular shoujo. While there are some fantastic gems out there, a good chunk of it is like regular shounen in that it is heavily cliched. However, I just started Namaikizakari and it has an interesting beginning.
Yuki is a no-nonsense 2nd year girl who almost never smiles. She is the oldest of six kids and always acts mature and responsible. Despite that, she joins the basketball club as the manager because she has a crush on the 3rd year team captain and just wants to be around him, even though she has no plans to confess. Enter 1st year Naruse, a handsome and talented member of the club with an irreverent and lackadaisical attitude. From the moment they first meet, it seems like his hobby is to bug and annoy Yuki.

I've only on chapter 1 but I like it so far, especially Yuki. She is so harsh and serious but also unexpectedly vulnerable because she pushes everything down inside herself.

Hibi Chouchou looks nice, I might give that a try. Pretty art.
