| celador said: I hated it. Pretty as an anus, still manages to run like crap, shoddy combat, too many enemies early on when you are woefully underpowered, can barely carry anything so you are constantly going back to your base after exploring two small buildings. Don't get the hype for it at all, I gave up after two hours |
Tha'ts kind of realistic, is it not? Early on you are supposed to be underpowered, and each encounter is supposed to be frightening. Especially the permadeath adds a layer of extra tension, where you must get away at all costs, and you are scrambling for your life. In other games you could just die, and reload, but here you really are fighting for survival at every moment. A true survival game, where you actually are afraid to die, like you should.
You'd plan to scavenge a house or two, and go back for the day to rest up. That also is somewhat realistic, especially given how full the town is of zombies, and how dangerous it is to go on those scavanging runs. You don't have to explore every house, but you need a good balance. Also you can also bring a bigger backpack, at the cost of mobility, and you can bring a car, and store things in the trunk of the car.
The permadeath possibly one of my favourite aspects of the game, how you can grow attached to a character and then you might just lose them. Also the skills that improve as you do something. Sneak around a lot, and your sneaking skill will increase. Fight hand to hand a lot, your combat skill will increase, etc. Already by deafault each character has different skill levels, and added this mechanic, you end up with different people that are good for different types of missions.
While personally for me the gameplay, grew a bit stale after a few hours and the story didn't hook me in, the game has plenty of amazing ideas and game mechanics, and definitely the next one has potential to be one of the greats.
