I think you are missing the point.  Yes, the competition is also greedy with accessories.  However, Nintendo has decided to raise the bar by charging even more than the competition.

Sadly, if they are successful, the competition will follow suit, and all of us will be paying more for accessories.

Hey, I'm not happy with the price. Maybe I'll buy a Pro Controller when it drops to $40 or $50. $70 is just too rich for my blood, especially when I'm getting a usable controller with the base system.

But all these companies keep trying to push the envelope and see what they can get away with. What's helping them to get away with it is what I referenced above: brand loyalty. Nintendo loyalists will pay $70 for a Pro Controller. Sony fans will cry foul, until the DualShock 5 is released for $75, and then they'll hold their tongues. How many PS4 owners derided MS for its online paywall? Now they're paying $60 a year for the honor of playing online multiplayer.

The problem is that fans are always making a stand against the other guy.

And fans are always supporting silly decisions by their champion.  I find it less "evil" when a company plays catch up with a competitor, than a company who goes against the status quo.

I am sure that Nintendo did a financial model, and they are expecting to make more money with a higher price (as opposed to more units sold at a lower price), because they are expecting a certain amount of hard core fans to pay anything.
