I'm originally from a country that spends way less budget on public education and when I came to the states at the age of 13, the kids around me were dumb as hell for the most part and didn't know how to do simple math or read/write for shit. I was already past most high school student level in this country when it came to math and science. When I was in high school, only the parents that took actual time and effort on their kids got really good results and went to top schools, it's fucking parenting paired with the right tools, not just about having more budget in a failing education system.
