Usually the green leaves are Mint leaves and not Basil, at least in all the Vietnamese restaurants in my area.

Oh and the real way to prep Pho after being served is to take at least 5 Mint leaves and tear them up and drop them in the bowl. Then you add at least a handful of the bean sprouts. After that you add Hoisin sauce, just enough to slightly change the color of the broth, and then add Sriracha until you have a good level of spice. Provided you have a good broth you never lose the flavor of the broth but have just enhanced it to the next level of amazing.

Oh and use chopsticks and don't be afraid to slurp, just a little, you uncivilized slobs that try to eat Pho with a fork.
