It's so sad that the term "liberal" is synonym for left-wing in english. In portuguese, liberal has a different tone. Actually, socialists here call liberal people fascists, conservatives and reactionaries.
Not electing socialists isn't even an option down here. There's not a single party that is not left wing. Maybe Partido Novo (New Party in english) and Democratas (Democrats). There's only a few politicians that are right wing.
Although I totally dislike our lasts presidents (Lula, Dilma and now Temer), I don't think security is a problem direct related to them. Maybe they are all guilty for not solving it.
Actually, tough I support the freedom to have a gun, I don't know if it would really help anyone here. The criminals are so organized and trained that even the police have a hard time.
OP: It's really hard to feel safe in any place in Brazil. I live in São Leopoldo, one of the most dangerous city in Rio Grande do Sul, and was robbed two times (one of them by a guy with a gun, I'm lucky to be alive). Meus pêsames pelo teu amigo e força pra ti, invetedlotus123!
