And it doesn't matter if you think those games aren't interesting or impressive, they're all games that are retro-inspired. 

Then why did you bring up your initial impressions? I never spoke about the actual games until you started to downplay...

Also, I never stated GR2 or Knack to be either cartoony or retro, just the fact they meet OP's definition. Retro inspired doesn't mean other games don't have this vibe.
