In gaming, yes. I don't understand how a handheld home console with console quality games for 300$ when most phones are 700-800$ when they first release is ridiculous tbh

You still don't get it do you?

  • Phones cost ~$260 to make but are sold for over $600 because the are hardware that stands on their own. Once a customer buys the phone they customer has no real business with the phone manufacturer anymore.  As can be said about practically every other consumer electroni ouut there

  • This is not the case with consoles. Getting you to buy a console is the manufacturer literally putting their foot in the door to your wallet for the forseeable future. Their business with you starts the second you buy the console, not ends.

  • This is why consoles are the only consumer electronic that are sold for very little to no mark up (typically) because its more important getting more hardware units in peoples hands than making money on the individual hardware. Because there is more money to be made from software, accessories and now services.

  • And lastly, even with smartphones (and I have been avoiding bringing this up because I figured you knew but now I am beginning to doubt that), NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE pay $600+ for their phones. The mobile carriers pays that amount to the phone manufacturer. Everyone else just pays anything from $0/ $50/$100/$200 for their phones initially and then pay $30/$40 every month for their service plan for the next 2 years.

I get that but it li terally doesn't change anything i said
